What exactly are peptides?

Peptides are proteins composed of long or short chains of amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins. Peptides can either be real or synthetic. Most peptides in skin care are synthetic because this give lab engineers greater control over the quality and the effectiveness of the peptides.

How do peptides work?

All peptides function as “messengers” and in skin care they have cell communicating capability. For example, some peptides affect muscle movement, some affect collagen and elastin synthesis, and some act as anti-inflammatory agents, speeding tissue regeneration resulting in the normalization of damaged skin.
