If you are looking for a simple, convenient and effective way to fight the signs that time, aging and the environment have on our skin, Pristine MedSpa and Laser Center may have an option for you — injectable treatments. Our Ridgecrest office offers a number of different injectable treatments to help you reduce and sometimes even eliminate fine lines and wrinkles, varicose or spider veins, skin furrows, lack of firmness and volume, and other typical concerns.

Intramuscular Injections

Intramuscular injections include Botox, probably the most well-known treatment of this kind. This kind of injection works in the muscles rather than just under the skin’s surface. The treatment is injected directly into the muscles of the face, in the area that you are looking to treat, such as the forehead or between the brows.

Botox is the brand name for the botulinum toxin that comes from a bacterium — Clostridium botulinum, the same one responsible for botulism. But the toxin that is the active ingredient in Botox, botulinum Type A, is nothing to worry about. It has actually been used in medicine and cosmetic procedures since the 1920s. Commercial marketing began in 1997, and the FDA approved it for cosmetic use in 2002. Within just five years of that approval, Botox was the most common cosmetic procedure, with 4.6 million procedures done in the United States alone.

The active ingredient in the injection relaxes the muscles in the treated area. Muscles that are relaxed aren’t able to contract, which means they can’t create wrinkles and lines. Most of the time, these kinds of injections are used to treat “active wrinkles” that have formed recently or aren’t extremely advanced or deep, but there have been some studies showing that having intramuscular injections before those wrinkles form can actually prevent them from showing up at all.

The most common treatment areas for intramuscular injections include frown lines, forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet around the eyes and creases in the neck. Your results will last three to six months on average. Your full results depend on different factors, including the specific kind of injectable, the problem you are trying to treat, and your individual skin.

To figure out what kind of injectable treatment is likely to get the best results for you, call our office today. Our trained medical professionals will answer your questions and consider your individual needs. We will work with you to determine the best course of treatment for your skin concerns.
