Wrinkle reduction is often accomplished through the injection of fluid compounds beneath the skin. One type of injectable prohibits the facial muscles from fully contracting. This is known as BOTOX® treatment. The other injectable, a dermal filler, is a fluid compound that attracts moisture to the affected area and plumps the skin, making it smoother and suppler. Both procedures are highly popular because they are in-house, outpatient treatments that require no downtime for the client and have few possible side effects. If you are concerned about the wrinkling of your facial skin and want to avoid surgical procedures, consider one of these two options.

Injection Treatments Are Quick and Fast-Acting

Both filler injections and BOTOX® treatments involve the injecting of fluid beneath the skin. The difference is how the two work to minimize the appearance of wrinkles and frown lines. However, both treatment types produce nearly immediate results with just a single procedure.

Filler treatments use hyaluronic acid or similar moisture-drawing fluids. These injections are made at carefully mapped-out points on the face or other area of the body. When the acid is injected, it begins to draw lymphatic fluid and water to the supportive tissues that lie just beneath the skin layers. The area becomes plumped, wrinkles become much less noticeable, and the skin is more elastic than before.

BOTOX® injections block nerve signals to the facial muscles, causing them to relax or contract in order for the individual to smile or frown. Crow’s feet and fine line wrinkles are much less apparent when the facial features are contorted.

Benefits of Injection Treatments

Both BOTOX® and filler treatments do not involve resurfacing of the skin through abrasion, heat, or peeling. The skin itself is therefore not affected. There is no downtime for the client, so normal activities can be resumed immediately.

The plumping caused by filler injections last quite a long time. Subsequent treatments can be schedule many months apart. BOTOX® treatments actually train the facial muscles to stay relaxed, so a second treatment is not needed for some time later.

Who is a Candidate for Injection Treatments?

Individuals suffering from facial wrinkling due to thinning skin or loss of support tissue are excellent candidates for injection treatments. Generally, these are men and women in their 30s or older. People with discolorations such as age spots or large freckles may want to consider another type of cosmetic treatment. BOTOX® and filler injections are recommended for those who are more concerned with wrinkles and smile lines rather than discoloration problems in the skin.
